About the cPanel ELS Fee
cPanel has started charging up to an additional $15 per month for CentOS servers. They call it an Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) fee, which covers the extra support required for operating systems that have reached their end of life. + Over the past year, we have been covering the costs…
Since July 2024, we have been covering these fees for you. However, as you can imagine, with multiple servers, these fees are beginning to add up.
Our goal is to avoid passing these extra fees onto our clients. So, I’m reaching out to you in hopes that we can work together to update your server, allowing us to eliminate these extra fees for maintaining outdated server software.
+ I have a general plan I would like to review with you:
- Review. We’ll review your current server setup to find out if any applications or services might be affected by the upgrade.
- Backup. Before making any changes, we’ll perform a comprehensive backup of your server to ensure no data is lost during the transition.
- Upgrade. Our team will upgrade your server’s operating system to the latest supported version at no cost.
- Testing. After the upgrade, we’ll conduct thorough testing to confirm that all services work correctly.
- And monitoring. We’ll closely monitor your server following the upgrade to address any unforeseen issues as soon as possible.
+ “What’s the biggest problem I may encounter?”
While we’ve upgraded many servers smoothly, the most significant issue involves compatibility with PHP 8.1.
Websites incompatible with PHP 8.1 generally prevent us from upgrading the server software. In those cases, we’ve asked clients to help us cover the additional fee until they update their software for compatibility with PHP 8.1. I’m afraid this issue is not going away, as all cPanel hosts have to pay extra to cover their clients who choose to remain on PHP 7.4 or earlier.
+ What next?
Please contact us as soon as you are able so that we can work together to update your server software to the latest, more secure version.
